Cherchez les Russes?

 

Quando si tratta di cartellini neri  sembrano esserci due tendenze. La prima tendenza è che gli arbitri a volte sono restii ad assegnarli  per  atti di cattiva condotta; questo perché nella maggior parte dei casi  la persona coinvolta è un noto schermidore o allenatore. In tal caso, la colpa è della Federazione di appartenenza che permette a queste “personalità” di sviluppare nel corso degli anni un senso di immunità totale, quando, ovviamente, questo poi esplode in faccia alla Federazione. 

La seconda tendenza è che il DT li assegna  per ragioni apparentemente ingiustificate, come nel recente scandalo del cartellino nero ai Mondiali di Milano in cui la schermitrice ucraina Olga Kharlan sembrava essere presa di mira con premeditazione da alcuni membri del DT. Questo scandalo è stato poi risolto in modo da consentire alla FIE di salvare la faccia e impedire le dimissioni di coloro che ne erano direttamente e indirettamente responsabili. Ma la politica nel caso Kharlan era evidente: Una Russa  ed una Ucraina  si confrontano su una pedana di scherma. Per questo motivo è anche giusto dire che è facile speculare ed inventarsi complotti di sana pianta. 

Un altro esempio dell’intervento del DT di assegnare un cartellino nero si è verificato il 20 Giugno u.s., ai  Campionati Pan-Am di Zona (Lima, Perù) al termine del match  della squadra femminile di fioretto, che ha visto il Messico prevalere sul Cile in un ultimo assalto ben combattuto per la medaglia di bronzo. In questo caso, il bersaglio del cartellino nero è stato il Sig. Jorge Castro Rea,  Presidente della Federazione Messicana, che è stato visto esultare in maniera più che sportiva dopo che la fiorettista Messicana ha segnato la stoccata vincente. Con grande costernazione del signor Castro Rea e dei presenti, questo momento di celebrazione è stato interrotto dal signor Josè Benavidez, Venezuelano e membro del DT (che secondo quanto riferito da terzi fa il tecnico di scherma  in Uzbekistan), che, avvicinandosi al signor Castro Rea, gli assegna  un cartellino nero. La testimonianza successivamente presentata dal signor Sergio Groupierre, un membro molto rispettato della FIE, sostiene che non vi è stato alcun comportamento scorretto  da parte del signor Castro Rea, confutando così le affermazioni avanzate dal sig. Benavidez nel suo rapporto. Va notato però che ci sono altri due testimoni che concordano con il signor Benavidez; anche se alcuni sostengono che tali testimoni non sono affidabili e che erano addirittura assenti dal luogo di gara durante l’incontro Messico-Cile. Sembra poi che l’arbitro dell’incontro non abbia rivolto nessun avvertimento (per comportamento scorretto ) al signor Castro Rea durante l’incontro. Ho sentito che ci sono segnalazioni di videoclip di questo incidente, che non mostrano alcun comportamento sanzionabile da parte del signor Castro Rea. Invito chiunque abbia questi videoclip a scaricarli sui  social media. 

Questa sanzione è stata  impugnata dal Sig.Castro Rea  e verrà giudicata dalla Commissione Disciplinare  della FIE ( Donald Alperstein, Marius Barladeanu, e Sharif Hussein). Non sono a conoscenza di tutti i fatti e delle testimonianze di questo caso, ma penso che per essere scrupoloso, tale pannello dovrebbe anche porsi la proverbiale domanda: a chi giova tutto ciò? 

e magari tenere in conto la politica interna Messicana. In effetti, sembra che ci sia in corso una lotta di potere per il controllo e/o la sopravvivenza della Federazione Messicana di Scherma. - Chi c'è dietro questa lotta di il potere nel mondo dello sport Messicano?
- Chi altro vuole candidarsi alla presidenza della Federazione Messicana di Scherma?
- Che impatto avrà questo cartellino nero sulla candidatura del Sig. Castro Rea (come titolare o meno) alle elezioni del 2024 per la presidenza della Federazione messicana di scherma?

When it comes to black-cards, there appears to be two trends.  The first trend is that referees often do not issue them even for egregious acts of misconduct; this because the individual involved is a well known fencer or coach. In such case, the fault lies with the governing body of origin that allows these “ celebrities” to develop a sense of blanket immunity over the years, until, of course, it blows up in their face. 

The second trend is the DT issuing black cards for seemingly unjustified reasons as in the recent black card scandal at the Milan World Championship  in which Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan seemed to be targeted with premeditation by certain members of the DT. This scandal was then settled in a way to allow the FIE to save face and prevent the resignation of those who were directly and indirectly responsible for it.  But the politics in the Kharlan case were apparent: A Russian and a Ukranian confronting themselves on a fencing strip.  Because of this, it is also fair to say, that it is easy to speculate and conjure up wild theories of conspiracy. 

Another example, of DT’s intervention in issuing a black card occurred on June 20, 2023, at the Pan-Am Zonal Championship   (Lima, Perù) at the conclusion of the women’s team match,  which saw Mexico prevail over Chile in a well-fought, down-to-the-line last bout for the Bronze medal. In that case, the target of the black card was Mr. Jorge Castro Rea, President of the Mexican Federation who cheered in a very sportsmanlike way after the Mexican fencer scored the winning touch.  Much to the consternation of Mr. Castro Rea and of those present, this moment of celebration was interrupted by Mr.Josè Benavidez a  Venezuelan and member of the DT (who reportedly coaches in Uzbekistan), who walked towards Mr. Castro Rea and issued him a black-card. Testimony later submitted to the FIE by Mr. Sergio Groupierre, a most respected member of the FIE, supports the proposition that there was no  misconduct on the part of Mr. Castro Rea; thereby refuting the factual allegations made by Mr. Benavidez in his report. It must be noted, however, that there are other two witnesses who  agree with Mr. Benavidez; although there are allegations that they are not reliable and not even present at the venue at the time of the Mexico-Chile match. Most importantly, it seems that the referee did not issue any warnings  of any kind to Mr. Castro Rea throughout the entire match. I heard that there are reports of video clips of this incident, which do not show any sanctionable behavior on the part of Mr. Castro Rea.  I invite anyone who has these clips to post them on social media.  

Be that as it may, the matter has been appealed by Mr. Castro Rea to the FIE and it is now in front of the FIE Disciplinary Council (Donald Alperstein, Marius Barladeanu, e Sharif Hussein). I’m not privy to all the facts and testimony in this case but I think that to be thorough the Disciplinary Council  should also ask the proverbial question: Cui bono? and maybe take into account Mexican internal politics. • Who is behind this power struggle in Mexico? 
• Who else wants to run for President of the Mexican Fencing Federation?
• What impact does this black card have on Mr. Castro Rea‘s candidacy (as the incumbent or not)  in the 2024 elections for President of the Mexican Fencing Federation?
