La Proposta del Congresso Straordinario della FIE a Marzo, l’ha avanzata Barzini? - “English Version follows Italian one”

Ricordiamo tutti questa famosa battuta del film “Il Padrino”. Allo stesso modo, vorrei chi è stato, alla riunione del 25 Novembre dell’esecutivo della FIE (ComeEx), a proporre, per primo, di tenere un Congresso straordinario della FIE nel Marzo p.v, per deliberare il rientro in gara degli atleti Russi e Belorussi.

Da notare che il ComEx avrebbe potuto semplicemente posticipare la decisione, come già fatto in precedenza. La convocazione, invece, di un Congresso Straordinario ha il valore ed il significato di voler prendere (furbescamente) due piccioni con una fava. Infatti, come primo atto, si è rimossa (cioè, tolta) una pericolosa, quanto fastidiosa ed imbarazzante patata bollente dal piatto; come secondo atto, invece, si è cercato di garantire, in maniera strisciante, la risoluzione (forse) definitiva di una questione (diventata ormai ricorrente), appena in tempo per l’inizio della nuova stagione di qualifica, che appunto comincia proprio ad Aprile.

Beh, uno potrebbe dire: cosa c'è male in ciò?

Niente, ovviamente, ma le accuse fatte dal delegato degli Stati Uniti, a proposito della possibile compravendita di voti, hanno gettano una luce sinistra su tutti i procedimenti FIE, anche se - per il momento - rimangono solo semplici ipotesi accusatorie. Tuttavia, non nascondo che mi sarebbe piaciuto essere una mosca sul muro, durante la riunione del 25 Novembre, appunto per vedere da chi è stata avanzata la proposta del Congresso Straordinario.

Illustri membri del ComEx, se mettete a dura prova la vostra memoria, dovreste ricordare chi è quella persona. Ora, se le accuse fatte dal delegato degli Stati Uniti si dimostrassero infondate, allora, questo sarebbe semplicemente un esempio di esercizio di democrazia, all’interno di un'organizzazione. Ma, se puta caso, queste accuse dovessero risultare, invece, fondate, allora, signore e signori, chi potrebbe negare che all’interno del ComEx vi è un traditore, la cui identità è certamente a Voi ben nota?

Is the FIE Extraordinary Congress in March a Barzini meeting?

“Listen, whoever comes to you with this Barzini meeting, he's the traitor. Don't forget that” (Don Vito Corleone to his son Michael).

 We all remember this famous line from The Godfather. By the same token, I would like to know who at the November 25th meeting of the FIE Executive Committee (ComEx) brought up first the idea of having an Extraordinary Congress of the FIE in March 2023, for the purpose of having the FIE delegates vote on the readmission of fencers from Russia and Belarus to international FIE competitions.

 The ComEx could have tabled the matter in camera. But by remanding it to an Extraordinary Congress convened for the mentioned special purpose, it conveniently removed the matter from its own discretion and ensured that the question would be “called” and voted on just in time for the 2024 Olympic qualification season starting in April 2023.

 Well, what’s wrong with that one may say?

 Nothing, but for the allegations made by the United States delegate at the FIE Congress, that someone has been buying votes on this issue. Clearly, this casts a sinister light on all FIE proceedings, even if, for the time being, these are just allegations. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall at the November 25^th ComEx meeting to see who first proposed the idea of the Extraordinary Congress.

 All ComEx members should have no problem remembering who did it.

 If the allegations made by the US delegate prove to be unfounded, then what we have is just democracy at work in an organization. But if perchance such  allegations turn out to be true, then there may be a “traitor” à la Barzini in The Godfather inside the ComEx meeting and only those who were present may know who it is.
